OUR HERITAGE
The Mackey Funeral Home is proud of its longstanding relationship with families in Lindsay, Ontario and surrounding communities. It is independently owned and operated by a third generation of caring Mackey family. The 'Mackey' quality of care is renowned throughout this region. The funeral home was founded by Mr. John Anderson in 1859. John Anderson Furniture and Funeral Supply located on Kent Street West in Lindsay, provided a selection of quality furniture and funeral services. James S. Mackey apprenticed with John Anderson and became a co-owner in 1919 of the Furniture and Funeral Supply business. Recognizing the value of a funeral service, James built the only Funeral Chapel in the Town of Lindsay. This chapel remains the only Funeral Chapel designated for funeral care in the now City of Kawartha Lakes. James' commitment to the community didn't end with funerals, his was involved throughout his lifetime fostering the friendships he had made in Lindsay and the surrounding area.
After the death of James S. in 1950, his sons Linden J., Gordon and James E. continued the
traditions established by their father. Although Linden J. retired in
the 1970's, he was active in the business until the time of his death
in 1987. In 1986 James G., as his grandfather did, returned to Lindsay to complete his apprenticeship and subsequently graduated in 1987 and remained as an employee. James E. and Gordon, together with James G. and Linden S. continued with the support of additional staff until the time of James E.'s retirement in 1989. During 1989 Gordon's sons Linden S. and James G. became partners with their father.
