Obituary for Eric Copeland

Eric Copeland
Copeland, Eric “Rick” George ~ It is with deepest sorrow we announce that Dad passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 3rd, 2018. After a courageous battle with Bulbar ALS, at the age of 65, Rick was the beloved father of Kelly (Brendan Johnston) and Chris (Jennifer Brennan) and will be remembered by their mother Janice. Cherished Grandfather of Mikayla, Madelynn, Lilah-Marie and Jacob. He is survived by his sister Peggy-Lou (John Milton) and brothers Craig (Bonnie) and Bruce (Gayla). Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, colleagues and friends. Predeceased by his parents Dr. Donald and Roberta Copeland (née Duthie). Rick will be remembered for his many years of service on the Trent Severn Waterway as Lock Master, as an EMS Paramedic in Port Hope, Cobourg and Peterborough and as a First Aid & CPR Instructor. Rick was known for his strong work ethic, loyal friendship, sense of humour and generosity. He loved to spend time with family and friends whenever possible, and could not go anywhere without stopping to ‘chat’ with someone he knew. Dad felt most at home behind the wheel of a vehicle – he loved to drive whether it be an Ambulance, a Century Van to Toronto or a family car, for a tour of the fall leaves in Algonquin Park. He will be fondly remembered for his love of Tim Horton’s black coffee, pecan pie and the amazing ice rinks he built every winter in the park. An avid hockey fan, he also enjoyed riding his bike from Peterborough to Lakefield for work and spending time on the water. Our special thanks to Dr. Clements, Dr. MacMillan, and the amazing nursing staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the Ross Memorial Hospital. Family also wish to extend a very special thank you to the wonderful team at Adelaide Place for their unwavering support, compassion and commitment to caring for Dad. Visitation will take place at Cambridge Street United Church in Lindsay, Ontario on Saturday April 21st, 2018 from 1:00 – 2:45 p.m. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life Service will take place at 3:00 p.m. with reception to follow. In keeping with Rick’s wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Society would be greatly appreciated. Online donations and condolences can be made through Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay, (705-328-2721).
