Obituary for Bernice Lousia Barton (Wallis)

Print
Bernice Louisa Barton (nee Wallis) 1927-2018

Our mom, Bernice Barton passed away with her children and grandchildren holding her hands and speaking of their love and memories. Our mom was a caring, passionate woman who loved her family and friends. A graduate of the Wellesley Class of ’49 Nursing, she loved being a registered nurse. Our mom and grandmother taught us a lot about friendship as she and her classmates met once a month since their graduation in 1949: these women celebrated, grieved, laughed and shared all things in their lives. Great lessons for all.

This was a time where love for her husband Cyril Barton grew and they started their family: Steve Barton (deceased), Penny Barton Dyke (Robert), and Mark Barton (Carey). Her life bonds with her best friend, Dorothy Anderson from high school, who equally embraced the love of nursing, loved one another’s children with open hearts. We are all blessed from these connections and life lessons.

She was a loving grandmother who danced, sang old songs and watched the Blue Jays with her grandchildren: Casey Moore (great grandchildren Aubrey and William), Sydney Barton and Braden Dyke.
She cherished the support that comes by living in a three-generational family. Her caregiving team led, by her grandson Braden ensured dignity and respect in these final years. She loved summer afternoons and evenings in the garden, watching the birds and reading a good book.

She believed we have obligations to share knowledge and lend help to others. In the spirit of helping to pay it forward with acts of kindness she requested consideration for donations to the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes’ Community Garden projects.

Our family is grateful for the help of caregivers who faithfully supported us in our mission to keep mom at home and healthy. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and nursing students who cared for our mom at the Ross Memorial Hospital for the past several weeks. Cremation has taken place at her request and an internment will take place in the spring.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay (705-328-2721). Online condolences may be made at www.mackeys,ca
