Obituary for Margaret Jane Vipond

Margaret Jane Vipond
Margaret Jane Vipond nee: Stewart ~ died peacefully in her sleep Thursday night at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay in her 91st year. Loving mother of Christopher( Cindy) and Penny (Gord) and devoted Grammie to Alec, Michael, Christopher and Melissa. Predeceased by her daughter Pamela, husband Richard, sister Marjorie, brothers Alexander and Gene and parents Thomas Goodwin Stewart and Ina Marjorie Stewart. Margaret was born November 16th, 1924 in the town of Weston. Her family eventually moved to Toronto where she attended Central Tech. Collegiate, studying to become a laboratory technician, a career which she pursued for some time. Later Margaret secured a position at A.C. Nielsons Marketing Research Firm where she met her future husband, a young and ambitious 17 year old by the name of Richard (Dick) Vipond. It was a match made in heaven that was to last for 53 years. Although Margaret retired from the workforce to raise a family, as was the custom in the 1950s, she was a major asset in Kick’s rise to the top of his field in marketing research. In 1984, Margaret and Dick moved to Chicago so that Dick could become the President and Chairman of A.C. Nielsens Marketing Firm. During this time Margaret accompanied her husband on global travels and became a polished diplomat and hostess to many visiting business men and women. In 1989, when Dick retired, he and Margaret built their dream home in Aurora Ontario. There, Margaret was to pursue her many interests including botanical art, gardening, home decorating, and golfing at the Donalda Club in Don Mills. The arrival of four grandchildren in the early 1990s became the focus for both grandparents, who doted on their ever increasing family. There will be a funeral for family members at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Lindsay, on Saturday February 14, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at the Mackey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes, and may be made at the funeral home or online at www.mackeys.ca.
